Privacy Policy

How we handle your personal data under the UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and applicable PECR requirements.

1. Our Approach

Minimal data. Clear choices. You can use our calculators without creating an account or providing your name or email address.

2. Information We Collect & Calculator Inputs

Calculator inputs are processed to provide the service you request. The legal basis is UK GDPR Article 6(1)(b), where applicable.

3. Technical Logs & Security

Our hosting provider processes standard server logs, including IP address, browser type, language and request time, to maintain security and service stability. The legal basis is our legitimate interest under UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f), where applicable.

4. Cookies and Local Storage

We use local storage for functional preferences such as language and colour scheme, and optionally for gift lists you save in a calculator; this information stays on your device. Your analytics and advertising choice from the consent banner (Accept & Continue or No, thank you) is stored locally as analytics-consent. A Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal is treated as a rejection. Google Consent Mode v2 communicates the resulting consent signals to Google tags.

Web Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), provided by Google Ireland Limited, to understand how the site is used and improve our calculators.

The site sends Google tags interaction events such as page views, completed calculations, result ratings, search use, and share or copy actions. Gift amounts, budget inputs, personal details, free-text entries, and shared result-link contents are not intentionally sent as event parameters. Depending on the tag configuration, Google tags may send limited cookieless signals when consent is denied; analytics storage remains disabled.

Google Analytics also collects standard technical usage data required for the service, such as truncated or anonymized IP addresses (IP anonymization is enabled), approximate location (e.g., country), browser and device information, session identifiers, interaction duration, page path, page title, and referrer URL. We configure analytics so page URLs are transmitted without query parameters, preventing selection values from shared links from being passed along. Google may process data in the United States. We do not use Google Analytics advertising features for personalized advertising; optional aggregated demographic reporting (such as age or gender via Google Signals) occurs only based on your analytics consent.

Analytics, non-essential storage, and personalised Google AdSense ads are activated only after you click Accept & Continue on the consent banner. You can decline with No, thank you on the same banner. Your choice is stored locally in your browser (Local Storage: analytics-consent). Until you accept, Google Consent Mode v2 keeps analytics_storage, ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization denied. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a rejection and do not show the banner. You can revoke a prior choice by clearing website data; the banner reappears on your next visit unless GPC remains active.

Legal basis: UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a), where consent is required. The Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 (PECR) apply to non-essential storage or access where relevant. Google may process data in the United States. More information: Google Privacy Policy.

Google AdSense & Advertising

We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Personalised advertising is enabled only after you accept on the consent banner. Google Consent Mode v2 communicates that choice to Google tags. When consent is denied, the relevant storage and personalisation signals remain denied; non-personalised ads may be shown depending on configuration.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ad Settings or alternatively via www.aboutads.info.

Legal basis for personalised advertising: UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a) and PECR, where applicable and required. More information: Google Advertising and the Google Privacy Policy.

Using Native Share & Clipboard Functions

We offer the ability to share calculated results via your device's native sharing feature (e.g., via messaging apps, email, or SMS) or copy the link directly to your clipboard.

How it works: When clicking 'Share Result' or 'Copy Result Link', our application interacts exclusively with local browser or operating system interfaces (the Web Share API `navigator.share` and clipboard-based copy functionality).

Data processing: No personal data is transmitted to our servers or third-party providers during this action. The creation of the personalized link and opening of your operating system share menu occur entirely locally on your device (client-side).

User responsibility: Only when you actively select a service (such as a messaging app or mail client) in your local device menu to send the link does data processing occur through that respective third party. We have no control over third-party data practices. The privacy policies of your chosen services apply.

Legal basis: Our legitimate interest under UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f) in providing a useful local sharing function.

Use of the share or copy function may be sent as an event to Google tags; processing follows the consent signals communicated through Google Consent Mode v2. Gift amounts and link contents are not sent.

5. Third-Party Widgets & Analytics

Details regarding web analytics can be found in the 'Web Analytics (Google Analytics 4)' section above. External review widgets are currently not utilized.

6. Your Rights Under the UK GDPR

Depending on the processing, these may include:

  • Right of access (UK GDPR Article 15)
  • Right to erasure (UK GDPR Article 17)
  • Right to object to processing (UK GDPR Article 21)
  • Right to data portability (UK GDPR Article 20)
